In the past, gynecologic surgeries had to be performed in the hospital or an outpatient surgery center—mainly because anesthesia was required and that was the only way to get it. Now, we have the ability to offer minor surgeries, such as hysteroscopy, LEEP and uterine ablation, safely in the comfort of our offices. Other procedures, such as colposcopy and IUD insertion, can also be performed in our office surgery suites when anesthesia is desired.

Preparing to have office surgery at WHA could include:

  • Consultation with your physician to discuss your options and talk about the benefits and risks of the procedure and where it is performed.
  • An assessment of your health to make sure it is safe for you to receive anesthesia outside of a hospital setting.
  • A review of your insurance benefits by one of our financial counselors, including obtaining pre-authorization, if required.
  • A pre-surgery visit with our nurse for more information on what to expect before, during and after your surgery.

When the day comes for your procedure, you’ll bring a support person with you who will stay for the whole visit. You’ll also have your very own WHA nurse while you’re here. Your sedation will be administered by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The procedures are typically fairly short, but we’ll let you know generally how much time to plan for preparation, surgery and recovery.

As part of our commitment to providing safe office surgery care, WHA is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare. This is regular process in which WHA’s policies, procedures, facilities, training and staff and provider credentialing programs are reviewed to make sure they align with patient safety and quality.

Whether you’re in our office, at nearby hospital or just in touch—rest assured that your comfort and safety are always our first priority.
